An electronic printer and a method of printing comprising a source of toner (2), a solid state toner conveyor array (1) to transfer toner from the source of toner to a transfer location (3). The conveyor array has a plurality of conveyor columns (10) with each column comprising a plurality of selectively chargeable electrodes (11). A transfer array (5) is spaced apart from the transfer location with at least one electrode (12) in the transfer array for each column of the conveyor array. Toner is conveyed along a selected column of the conveyor array to the transfer location and then attracted to the respective electrode or electrodes of the transfer array to be intercepted by a receiving member (4) placed between the transfer location and the transfer array and to be deposited thereon.
