Electronic interface to optical equipment used in optometry and ophthalmology

The interface includes an electronic module based on a microprocessor or microcontroller. The microprocessor has associated several input/output ports and a memory. The microprocessor is programmed to provide adaptation between a variety of widely used serial communication protocols and adapting the information content between different structures. The protocol conversion adapts 7 bit to 8 bit word length and speeds between 300 and 19200 baud. The information content conversion adapts number, arrangement, value of data and also control codes. The data can also be adapted between serial and parallel transmission formats. Includes switching to allow insertion in operational serial line.
