Establishment of wireless link between hand-held control and units

The method employs infrared radiation for communication between the handheld unit (FE) and a number of items of equipment (A1-A3) each having its own electronic transceiver (e.g. A1e) for transmission into a defined angle ( beta 1). The reaction time of each item of equipment is determined by a built-in random number generator. As soon as an item responds to transmission from the handheld unit, all other items are inhibited until the communication is completed and another selection is made.
