PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a highly safe agent (the subject scavenger/inhibitor) having excellent active oxygen scavenging effect and color fading inhibitory effect, containing, as active ingredient, a specific lignan compound found in Linum usitatissimum seeds. SOLUTION: This agent (scavenger/inhibitor) contains, as active ingredient, a lignan compound of formula I (R1 -R4 are each H or a 1-3C alkyl; R5 and R6 are each hydroxyl, saccharide residue with one to three of at least one kind of saccharide selected from glucose, galactose and fructose mutually connected through glycoside linkage, etc.) [pref. a compound of formula II (R7 and R8 are each the same as R5 and R6 , respectively), more pref. a compound of formula III (Glc is a glucose residue)]. The lignan compound can be obtained by subjecting the ground product of Linum usitatissimum seeds or roasted product thereof or defatted cake of the seeds to extraction with a lower alcohol or hydrous lower alcohol. |
