Automatic steering system for motor vehicle

The automatic steering control operates in certain conditions and steers the vehicle via a servo motor while the steering wheel is blocked. When the manual steering is reset a servo drive first moves the steering wheel until its setting coincides with that of the steering column and locks the two together. The change over from automatic steering to manual follows a progressive course. An indicator reminds the driver when the steering is by automatic control. A locking mechanism holds the steering wheel during automatic steering. The two servo motors operate together in the change over period between automatic steering and manual steering.
