The footrest comprises a tread plate (9) swivel mounted on the baseplate of the vehicle. The baseplate (1) has underneath the footrest (3) an indentation (5) rising forwards in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle. When the tread plate is in the useful position its rear section is received by the indentation. The tread plate is locked by a detachable detent device (11) whose elements are mounted at the rear end of the tread plate and opposite wall of the indentation.
