摘要 <p>PURPOSE:To provide the method and device for removing coating which can surely remove inorg. layers by installing the end faces of two pieces of hermetically coated optical fibers so as to face each other to the center between discharge electrodes facing each other and utilizing the slight discharge by specific discharge conditions. CONSTITUTION:Two pieces of the hermetically coated optical fibers 2 are set at the central part of a pair of the discharge electrodes 1 in such a manner that the fibers intersect orthogonally with the line connecting these discharge electrodes 1 and that the respective end faces face each other. The spacing between the end faces of the discharge electrodes 2 is movable in a range from 100mu to about 1mm by means of fiber fixing bases 4 provided with fine adjustment functions. The inter-electrode spacing is fixed at about 1.5mm and the hermetic coating layers are removed by discharging electricity by a slight discharge condition setting circuit that the discharge energy J and discharge time t satisfy 0.12<J<5.2t+1. The inorg. layers of the optical fibers 2 are easily and completely removed in this way and, therefore, the high-strength fusion splicing at a low loss is possible.</p>
