PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photoreceptor capable of obtaing excellent photographic characteristics without reducing sensitivity and obtaining an image stable and high in quality even when the photoreceptor is repeatedly used by incorporating tin oxide particles doped with tantalum and a resin into the surface layer on a photosensitive layer. SOLUTION: This electrophotographic photoreceptor consists of a base body, a photosensitive layer on the base body, and a surface layer on the photosensitive layer. The surface layer contains a resin and tin oxide particles doped with tantalum. It is preferable that the resin is a hardening-type resin and that the surface of the tin oxide particle doped with tantalum contains a surface treating agent selected from a silane coupling agent, silicone oil, siloxane compd. and surfactant. Further, it is preferable that the tin oxide particles doped with tantalum have >=10<2>Ω.cm resistance. Thereby, the photoreceptor has a protective layer excellent in conductivity and transparency and hardly causes decrease in the sensitivity or increase in the residual potential.
