The collector has a hollow section (1) without a base (4) with perforated walls (2). A protective grid covers the top (3). The sides (2) and base (4) of the section are placed directly in contact with a material made up of small, hard, permeable blocks, e.g. stones (5). The collector is inserted in the ground in areas where rainwater gathers. The hollow section acts initially as a reservoir enabling the rainwater to be absorbed immediately then allows the water to soak away into the soil. Several collectors may also be linked together with perforated pipes placed on a bed of stones, to drain larger areas. The hollow section is 30 centimetres square and 50 centimetres high.
