The system consists of a piston/cylinder assembly (30) which connects the mounted unit (bridge) to the supporting rig. The cylinder has two chambers (40,42) located on either side of the piston (36) and which are connected by a pipe (44) with a valve (46) to prevent fluid passing from one chamber to the other. The assembly incorporates a pump to keep the two chambers filled with fluid, e.g. water, and the piston has a rod (38) which projects from the cylinder and is connected to the support. A variant of the design has an additional, small-diameter pipe with a valve between the two chambers, located parallel to the first pipe(44) and is designed for making fine adjustments.
