They facilitate the production of improved yarns 1 which are very cheap and of acceptable quality and can be used preferably in the making of disposable (single-use) garments. Said yarns 1 include a fine carrier yarn 2 to which a mass of down 3 originating from the combing of the fibre used is adhered. The yarn 1 obtained has a greater volume than a conventional one for the same length and quantity of fibre, without an appreciable reduction in its strength. It also makes it possible, when making the down 3, to utilize the shorter small fibres which are normally discarded. The carrier yarn 2 is joined to the down 3 preferably by electrostatic means or by means of the use of a water- soluble adhesive. <IMAGE>
