PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To report information from an opposite side terminal under holding to a user in real time with no character limitation. SOLUTION: A video telephone system has a holding reception part 115 and a held information storage part 117 or the like. When an opposite side terminal (CR1) urgently desires to transmit a message to the present terminal of this video telephone system in the state of speaking between the present terminal and an opposite side terminal (CR2), the opposite side terminal (CR1) on the transmission side transmits the emergency message. When this message is received, the user of the present terminal can watch this message by clicking an icon for emergency message or depressing a button for emergency message, for example, but when the contents of message from the opposite side terminal (CR1) are received at the present terminal in this case, communication is switched from the opposite side terminal (CR2) to the opposite side terminal (CR1) and the information from the opposite side terminal (CR1) is received. After the information from the opposite side terminal (CR1) is received, the opposite side terminal is immediately switched and the opposite side terminal (CR2) is connected again.
