<p>An electronic scan antenna (30) for generating an electrically scanned RF beam in response to an incident RF beam includes a ground plane (34) for reflecting the incident RF beam and a phasing arrangement of plasma structures (32) coupled to the ground plane. Each plasma structure (32A) includes gas containing reflective areas, when ionized, forming ionized plasma areas. Each ionized plasma area is disposed a first distance from the ground plane and a second distance from adjacent ionized plasma areas. Each ionized plasma area cooperating with the ground plane provides a portion of a composite RF beam which has a phase shift. A control circuit selectively ionizes the gas containing areas to dynamically vary the phase shift for electronically scanning the composite beam.</p> |
