Transmission noise predicting and evaluating method

The method involves using simulation software which computes torsional vibrations. The transmission is generated in a computer as a simulation model and the computations are started with input parameters corresp. to driving with a certain internal combustion engine. The amplitude spectrum of the rotational acceleration signal of the model is recorded and compared with measured values. The recorded spectrum is reduced to the usual audio sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz and converted into time and amplitude values for left and right audio channels by a table calculation program. The simulation data are enhanced with transmission housing characteristics obtained using measurements and sound quality engineering tools. The radiation properties of a comparable transmission are measured and used for model correlation and validation. The modified spectrum is audibly reproduced to enable evaluation by listeners.
