摘要 The turbocharger (3) has the output duct (25) from the compressor part (11) tapped by a by-pass line (29) prior to feeding into the inlet manifold. A bypass control valve (31) is controlled by a an electronic engine management module (33) to provide a varying bypass flow, thereby preventing the inlet air flow to the engine from pulsating. The processor has a number of programmes, or cards, with empirically derived operating parameters for the engine and from these is able to drive the bypass valve to achieve a smooth air supply. The bypass line dumps the surplus air either into the inlet of the turbine(5) of the turbocharger or into the outlet of the turbine, to vent to atmosphere. The remaining compressed air is passed through an after-cooler (19) before entering the inlet manifold.
