The invention concerns an electrical switching device where destructive loading of the contact support (5) on appearance of short circuit forces in the on position is avoided. This is achieved by stops (8) in the extinction chamber which stop the opening movement of the contact bridge (4) before the contact spring (7) is compressed up to its closed length.
