BASIC PROTEIN COMPOSITION, BASIC PEPTIDE COMPOSITION AND USE THEREOF

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an orally administrable basic protein (peptide) composition having osteoblast proliferation-promotive, bone reinforcing and bone resorption- inhibitory effect. SOLUTION: This basic protein (peptide) composition has the following characteristics: (1) molecular weight: 2000-24000, (2) isoelectric point: 7.5-11, and (3) containing >=10wt.% of basic amino acids as constitutive amino acids. This composition is obtained by the following process: milk or a milk-derived stock is brought into contact with a cation exchange resin followed by eluting the fraction adsorbed to the resin with an elute 0.1-1.0M in salt concentration, and the resultant elute (i) is heated to >=75 deg.C, (ii) is incorporated with an alcohol so as to be 10-50wt.% in the final concentration, or (iii) is incorporated with a salt so as to be >=0.2M in the final concentration to effect deposition of precipitate which is then eliminated and the resultant supernatant is recovered.
