PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new dihalopropene compound manifesting excellent insecticidal and acaricidal effect. SOLUTION: This dihalopropene compound is expressed by formula I [R<1> is an alkyl, an alkenyl, an alkoxyalkyl, a cycloalkyl, formula II (A is a phenyl deriv., etc.; R<3> -R<5> are each H, an alkyl, etc.; (i) is 0-6), etc.; (z) is O, S; X is Cl, Br; R<2> is an alkoxy, nitro, cyano; (r) is 1-4; Y is an alkyl, a halogen; (h) is 0-3 while r+h<=4], for example, 1-(3,3-dichloro-2-propenyloxy)-3- nitro-4-[3-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]propyloxy]benzene. The compound of formula I, for example, the compound in which Z is 0 is obtained by carrying out the reaction of an alcohol of the formula R'-OH with a new compound of formula III in the presence of a suitable dehydrating agent. Insect pests such as smaller brown planthopper, rice stem borer, common gnat, cockroach, etc., are exemplified as the insect pests on which the compound of formula I manifests its controlling effect.
