The roving frame has a number of work stations (2) with flyers (3) and bobbin spindles (4) in two offset rows (I,II), where the flyers (3) and the bobbin spindles (4) are each at the corners (A,B,C) of isosceles triangles (30) with their bases (10) along the longitudinal line of the roving frame. The length (L) of the bases (10) of the isosceles triangles (30) are at least as large as, but not significantly larger than the required interval dimensions for the flyers (3) in the prodn. of small dia. (d) bobbins (20). The length (L') of the legs (11,12) of the isosceles triangles (30) is at least as large as, but not significantly larger than the required interval between the flyers in the prodn. of bobbins (20') with larger dias. (D). For larger diameter bobbins (20'), only alternate work stations (a',b',c',d' ....) are fitted with flyers (3) and bobbin spindles (4).
