The procedure consists of determining the general specification of the container structure, such as its dimensions, intended function and maximum internal pressure, calculating a global profile which satisfies the specification, and optimising the dimensions and/or shape of component parts to give maximum internal volume with minimal flexure and changes in curvature. The data obtained are used to mark out the material, e.g. sheet metal. for the components such as a main shell (7), e.g. cylindrical or conical in shape, and end members (11, 13, 14), and these are joined together e.g. by butt-welding. The material used for the container's components can be structural steel, stainless steel, aluminium alloys or metal matrix composition materials which can be curved or folded without damage. The completed container can be mounted, for example, on a wheeled trailer. |
