PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a composite ceramic fiber improved in heat decomposition, oxidation and reduction resistances by forming a covering layer consisting of a different compound from the ceramic fiber mediated by a specific medium layer on the surface of the ceramic fiber. SOLUTION: This composite ceramic fiber is obtained by applying a solution of a compound containing Si as a major component and one or more elements selected from C, N and O on the surface of a ceramic fiber at least containing Si, C and O and having 8-15μm diameter and 40-50mm length, drying, then calcining at 300-400 deg.C for 5-10min under the atmosphere to form a middle layer 3 having a value of a linear expansion coefficient between those of the fiber 1 and the coating layer 2, and a first reaction layer 4 formed by a reaction of the fiber 1 with the middle layer 3, then applying a solution containing a compound of one or more kinds of elements selected from Al, Fe, Zr, Si and Ti on the middle layer 2, drying, then calcining under the atmosphere, at 600-700 deg.C for 5-20min to form a coating layer 2 having 0.1-1.2μm thickness and a second reaction layer formed by a reaction of the middle layer 3 with the coating layer 2. |
