The chair has a floor based foot (15) and a seat (6,10) which are joined at one point only by a spherical elastic element (2) which is bigger vertically than half the distance between the seat when not weighted down and the underside of the foot. The elastic element consists of a plastics sheath filled with gas, especially air. The whole surface of the elastic element is encased in a cover (3), especially of textile material, closed by a fastening such as a sliding clasp hooked pile fastener. The top of the cover is connected by a collet to a short vertically mounted pin to which the seat is fixed especially by a screw connection.
