A wide-screen front extension for an audio/video or computer monitor having a display screen comprises an extension cabinet (5) having a front side (6) including a transparent optical filter screen (7) having a width considerably exceeding the width of said monitor display screen and extending substantially throughout the width of the front side. A top wall (8) of the extension cabinet (5) is designed to fit over the top of the monitor, whereas the rear side of the extension cabinet (5) is open to allow the cabinet to be detachably positioned to cover the front side of the monitor device and be retained in said position. The extension cabinet may be provided with side compartments to enhance its wide-screen appearance and serve for accommodation of computer accessories or utilities.
