PURPOSE:To obtain highly two-dimensionally oriented carbon film by an industrially advantageous method, by spreading a heat-treated substance in a molten state of carbonaceous raw material contg. optically anisotropical phase on a substrate in thin film shape, thereafter by treating in an oxidative atmosphere to make infusible and furthermore by carbonizing in a non-oxidative atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The carbonaceous raw material having >=30% optically anisotropical phase and 280-350 deg.C softening point or pretreated carbonaceous raw material is prepd. Then, the carbonaceous raw material is heat-treated usually at 350-500 deg.C, especially at 380-450 deg.C, in an inert gas. The heat-treated substance in a molten state is spread on the substrate in thin film shape having 1-100mu, especially 5-30mu thickness. The film is heated at 100-400 deg.C in the oxidative atmosphere such as in air to make infusible. The thin film after making infusible is carbonized in the non-oxidative atmosphere such as in N2, and further, graphitized to obtain the targeted carbon film. The carbonizing temp. is preferably 1,200-1,800 deg.C and the graphitizing temp. preferably 2,000-2,800 deg.C. |
