PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce adverse effect on a body to be electrostatically charged by suppressing the generation of ozone and a discharge product to the minimum as for a contact or a closely contact system and AC bias impressing system electrostatic charging device adopting an electric discharge action as an electrostatic charging principle and an image forming device using this electrostatic charging device. SOLUTION: Before the normal electrostatic charging time of the body to be electrostatically charged 1, the electrostatic charging potential of the body 1 is successively detected by a potential detection means 35 while successively impressing the AC voltage component VAC of at least three or more different interpeak voltages VPP obtained by superimposing a prescribed DC voltage component VDC on an electric charge supply member 31. Then, a DC power source 33, an AC power source 34 and an interpeak voltage varying means 38 are controlled so that a voltage VDC+VAC obtained by superimposing the prescribed DC voltage component VDC to the AC voltage component VAC of the interpeak voltage Vcont based on the above-mentioned detected result is impressed on the supply member 31 in the normal electrostatic charge term of the body 1. |
