Method for stabilising sodium oxalate in caustic solutions in the Bayer process

A method for inhibiting the precipitation of sodium oxalate crystals in the mother liquors of the Bayer process. The method comprises the stage of adding an effective quantity of a surfactant cationic alkylammonium salt compound to the mother liquors of the Bayer process after separation of the red sludges or immediately before crystallisation of the alumina trihydrate or during crystallisation of the alumina trihydrate.
