PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the above preparation for external use for skin, containing the extract of an alga belonging to the Durvilleaceae Durvillea and a betaine compound, synergistically exhibiting a moisture-retaining action and useful for treating and preventing rough skin syndromes such as atopic dermatitis and sensitive skins. SOLUTION: This preparation for external use for skin contains (A) at least a humectant selected from the group consisting of betaine compounds (especially preferably glycine betaine), glycerol and/or glycerol polymer and (B) the extract of an alga belonging to the Durvilleaceae Durvillea as active ingredients. The betaine compound in the component A is preferably compounded in an amount of 0.5-10wt.%, preferably 1-5wt.%, based on the whole amount of the composition. The glycerol, etc., are preferably compounded in amounts of 0.2-20wt.%, especially 0.5-10wt.%. The component B is preferably extracted from the alga with water or its mixture with a lower alcohol such as methanol or ethanol. |
