PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain an epoxy compound useful as a monomer or a resin stabilizer in high yield by reaction of a specific dialkenyl- tetrahydropyrane derivative with a hypohalous acid followed by reaction of the product with a hydroxide of alkali metal. SOLUTION: 2,5-Dialkenyltetrahydropyrane derivative of formula I (R-R<4> are each H or an alkyl) is allowed to react with a hypohalous acid such as hypohlorous acid to form mono- and/or bishalohydrin derivatives and the products are allowed to react with an alkali metal hydroxide, carbonate or hydrogen carbonate in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst to convert to 2-alkenyl-5-(1,2-epoxy-alkenyl)tetrahydropyrane derivative of formula IV and/or 2,5-bis-(1,2-epoxyalkenyl)tetrahydropyrane derivative of formula V. |
