PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cosmetic excellent in effect of providing skin and hair with softness, a moist feeling, a natural luster, retaining durability of the effect and excellent in safety, containing anα-alkylphenethyl-modified silicone having a prescribed structure. SOLUTION: This cosmetic contains preferably 0.1-2wt.% of anα- alkylphenethyl-modified silicone of the formula (R is an alkyl having a short chain length; R1 is a alkyl having a short chain length, phenyl, etc.; (m) is 5-2,000; (n) is 10-200).α-Alkylphenethyl-modified silicone having 100,000-200,000 molecular weight, 1/9-1/10 modification ratio shown by n/m in the formula and 10,000-50,000cp viscosity at 25 deg.C is preferable as the compound of the formula. The compound of the formula, for example, is obtained by adding anα- alkylstyrene to a cyclic polysiloxane containing a hydrogen atom bonded to an Si atom by using a platinum catalyst and (co)polymerizing a prepared cyclicα-alkylphenethyl-modified siloxane.
