摘要 <p>Cords consisting of fibres of linear polyesters are coated with an organic polymer by irradiating the interface between the polyester and organic polymer with ultraviolet light from an artificial source for a time sufficient to provide effect bonding without substantial degradation of either polymer. The polyester may be polyethylene terephthalate or the polyester of 1,4-butanediol and phthalic acid. The organic polymer may be polyethylene, which may be chlorosulphonated, crude rubber, copolymers of butadiene and styrene, alpha-methyl styrene, acrylic acid or vinyl pyridine, polychloroprene, cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, nylon, polyesters of sebacic acid and propylene glycol, allo-ocimene/vinyl n-butyl ether, which may be brominated, isoprene/isobutylene, which may be brominated, polyisobutylene, guttapercha, polyvinyl butyral and acetate, oil-modified alkyd resins, poly-beta-diethyl-amino-ethyl methacrylate quaternized with alkyl chloride, polybutyl methacrylate, and vinyl chloride/vinyl acetate/maleic anhydride terpolymer.ALSO:A layer of a linear polyester is bonded to a layer of an organic polymer by irradiating the interface between the layers with ultraviolet light from an artificial source for a time sufficient to provide effective bonding of the layers without substantial degradation of either polymers. The polyester may be polyethylene terephthalate or the polyester of 1,4, butanediol and phthalic acid. The organic polymer may be polyethylene, which may be chlorosulphonated, crude rubber, copolymers of butadiene and styrene, alpha methyl styrene, acrylic acid or vinyl pyridine, polychloroprene, cellulose acetate, ethyl cellulose, nitro cellulose, nylon, polyesters of sebacic acid and propylene glycol, allo - acimene/vinyl n - butyl ether, which may be brominated, isoprene/isobutylene, which may be brominated, polyisobutylene, guttapercha, polyvinyl butyrol and acetate, oil modified alkyd resins, poly-betadiethyl amino ethyl methacrylate quaternized with alkyl chloride, polybutyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate/vinyl chloride/maleic anhydride copolymer.</p>
