An apparatus for providing an ignition, without the use of a conventional so called "ignitor", of a discharge lamp or a discharge tube (1) of the type which comprises two spaced contact poles (5, 6) and which, for being ignited, requires that a light arc is built up between said contact poles (5, 6), in which apparatus the discharge tube (1) is connected in series in an electric circuit comprising a choke coil (3), the discharge lamp (1) and a capacitor (9), and in which the apparatus, parallely over the contact poles (5, 6) of the discharge tube (1), has a circuit which, in series, comprises a resistance (10) and a diode (11). The resistance connected parallely over the discharge tube (1) has a very high resistance, for instance between (1) and 20 k OMEGA . The diode (11) can be of about 1 mA. A resistance (12) can be connected parallely over the capacitor (9). |
