In the weft yarn feed system, for a loom, the yarn is wound round a store drum, to be taken off in steps as the drum is rotated. The number of wound yarn coils, and their intervals, are registered at time intervals and in cycles, for the motor speed and/or coil interval to be adjusted for the yarn take-off rate. Also claimed is an appts. where the number of wound yarn coils, the coil interval and/or the yarn take-off speed are projected to a sensor (7) with a number of adjacent sensor fields, for a given length (2) wound along the store drum (1).
