Wheelchair having two side parts (1, 2) connected to one another by a scissors-type guide and foldable from a use position in which they are remote from one another into an out-of-use position in which they lie closely adjacent. The side parts (1,2) have a lower part (3, 4) provided with wheels (31-34) and an upper part (5, 6) provided with a foldable seat (41) which parts are connected to each other so as to be vertically displaceable via a preferably telescopic guide and each have tubular parts (19-22) which are mounted so as to be rotatable in the plane of the side parts (1, 2) transversely to the direction of the guides and are rigidly connected to the ends of rods (27, 28) which are hingedly connected to each other in their central region. The lower parts (3, 4) of the side parts (1, 2) have support pipes (35, 36) extending parallel to the guides at least over the guide region. The upper parts (5, 6) of the side parts (1, 2) each have a contact roller (37, 38) which is supported on the adjacent support pipe (35, 36) on the inside. On folding, the rollers (37, 38) absorb an essential part of the compressive forces and transmit these forces in a rolling manner and thus with imperceptible frictional forces.
