PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink filling method stably reducing the residual amt. air layer in an ink holding part to enhance the filling yield of ink and capable of shortening the time required in filling to a large extent and a method and apparatus for producing an ink cartridge containing the ink filling method. SOLUTION: An ink cartridge main body 1 having an ink holding member 4 housed therein is preliminarily filled with a predetermined amt. of ink before the loading with the ink holding member 4 holding ink in an impregnated state when the ink cartridge is filled with ink. The ink holding member 4 is inserted into the ink cartridge main body 1 and ink is filled into the ink holding member 4. Thereafter, a lid 5 is mounted to complete an ink cartridge.
