TREATMENT OF PLASTIC WASTE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To separate two kinds of plastics in a method for treating a plastic waste comprising a hydrocarbon-based plastic and a non-hydrocarbon-based plastic. SOLUTION: Only a hydrocarbon-based plastic contained in a plastic waste comprising the hydrocarbon-based plastic and a non-hydrocarbon-based plastic is selectively dissolved in a dividing solvent dissolving the hydrocarbon-based plastic but substantially not the non-hydrocarbon-based plastic by bringing the waste into contact with the solvent. The dividing solvent solution having dissolved the hydrocarbon-based plastic is separated from the non-hydrocarbon- based plastic in a solid state. The dividing solvent solution of the hydrocarbon- based plastic is decomposed to give a decomposed product oil. The decomposition product oil is used as at least a part of the dividing solvent. The dividing solvent is composed of a liquid hydrocarbon mixture of an aromatic hydrocarbon and a paraffinic hydrocarbon.
