SUBSTANCE: method for production of benzyl alcohol involves hydrolysis of benzyl chloride which takes place with the help of solutions of hydroxide or carbonate of alkaline metal at 90-140 C at pressure being from atmospheric to 1.4 MPa in the presence of organic solvent. To remove residual amounts of benzyl chloride method for additional treatment of reaction mixture (prepared by hydrolysis) with the help of tertiary amines or salts thereof is proposed. According to present invention two-stepped hydrolysis is carried out at different concentrations of hydrolyzing agents. At the second step hydroxide of alkaline metal with 40-25 % concentration is used, ratio of organic phase and aqueous solution of hydroxide is 1:0.1-0.05. EFFECT: improved efficiency.
