The electrical connector has a cable plug 7 that is fixed to a switch panel 8 and engages a socket unit fixed to a circuit board 5. The socket provides a location for a sliding element 12 that has a hook end 20 that fits into a hole in the switch panel . A lever 22 mounted on the socket is used to linearly displace the sliding element and this presses internal contacts on the plug and socket to mutually engage.
