A reference pressure value (Pr) for the fuel injection start timing (&thetas;10) is set to be where the fuel pressure smoothly increases so that a fuel injection timing decision with little variation ( DELTA &thetas;) is provided even if the reference pressure value is varied ( DELTA P) due to noise or the fluctuation of supply voltage. An amplification circuit is used before a comparison circuit to increase a level of detection output. <IMAGE>
