PRODUCTION OF FIBER GRATING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of producing a fiber grating having a large variation in refractive indices. SOLUTION: This method for producing a fiber grating is to prepare a porous glass formed body by powder molding quartz-based powdery glass for forming a cladding part around a core glass rod produced by VAD method, wire draw an optical fiber base material prepared by heating the porous glass body to bring into a transparent glass to obtain an optical fiber, expose the optical fiber in a hydrogen-containing atmosphere and produce the fiber grating by irradiating a laser beam from the side of the optical fiber exposed in the hydrogen-containing atmosphere.
