PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable alkaline storage battery by which an increase in battery internal pressure at charging time can be reduced by using an electrode as a negative electrode of a sealed nickel-hydrogen secondary battery. SOLUTION: An electrode is hydrogen storage alloy on which a wet surface treatment is performed, by soaking it in an acid liquid, and has a CaCu5 type crystal structure that the specific surface area by a BET method using Kr as an adsorbing object material is 0.20 to 1.0m<2> /g and an average particle diameter is 40 to 80μm, and hydrogen storage alloy containing Ni is used as a hydrogen storage material.
