The switch (1) has a stop (8) adjacent to the intersection of two conveyors (2,5) movable between a position which allows stoppage of the plates (3) which circulate on a first conveyor (2) and a position allowing free circulation of the plates. A guide finger (9) is mounted pivotally parallel to the plane of the conveyors and above it. The finger moves between a position parallel to the first conveyor direction and a second position parallel to the second conveying direction to be driven for rotation by motors (12) around an axis perpendicular to the plane of the conveyors situated adjacent to the intersection. The finger engages in a groove (14) in a plate (3) arriving on the first conveyor and passing onto the second.
