PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To determine the composition and quantity of inclusion in steel quickly with high accuracy by irradiating a steel sample with an electron beam under vacuum so that the steel is melted and the internal inclusion floats on the surface of sample and analyzing the surface of cooled and solidified sample. SOLUTION: After the upper cover 4 of a vacuum vessel is lifted up and a steel sample 13 is set on a circular water-cooled steel hearth 3, the upper cover 4 is closed and a vacuum vessel 3 is evacuated to keep a vacuum state. The hearth 3 is then turned to a melting position and the sample 13 is irradiated with an electron beam 12 and melted and after the inclusions are floated on the surface of sample 13, the sample 13 is solidified and cooled. Subsequently, the hearth 3 is turned furthermore, and the sample 13 is shifted to a fluorescent X-ray analysis section 20 where the sample 13 is irradiated with first order X-ray 17 from an X-ray tube 14. Finally, characteristic X-rays 18 emitted from the sample 13 are detected thus evaluating the composition and quantity of inclusion contained in the sample 13. |
