METHOD OF TREATING GASES FROM MAGNESIUM PRODUCTION

FIELD: gas purification. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to treating gases containing bromine, chlorine, and hydrogen chloride. Method consists in subjecting effluent gas to multiple-step treatment with water and lime milk or with lime milk alone to attain pH below 6 in exhausted lime milk. If needed, exhausted lime milk can be acidified in a separate apparatus with hydrochloric or sulfuric acid to required pH value. Chlorine evolving on acidification is returned into the first step of gas treatment. Temperature of lime milk in the first treatment step is maintained in the range of 10-25 C. Exhausted lime milk with pH below 6 is introduced into desorber where it is blown through with air at temperature not below 40 C to separate bromine. Bromine-air mixture and solution from desorber are processed according to known procedures. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 1 dwg
