<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handwritten character input device capable of recognizing a character written in a free area without limiting the writing of the character only within a character input frame. SOLUTION: Based on the dimension/position of the circumscribing rectangle of a stroke stored by a single stroke storage means 103 and the dimension/ position of the rectangle of a virtual frame stored by a virtual frame storage means 106, an inclusion relation judgement means 108 judges the inclusion relation of the two rectangular areas. In the case that the rectangle of the virtual frame includes the circumscribing rectangle of the stroke, the signals of the stroke are added to a stroke group storage means 104. In the case that the rectangle of the virtual frame and the circumscribing rectangle of the stroke are not provided with a shared part, the character is recognized by using a character recognition means 109 and a recognized result is displayed by using a recognized character display means 110. In the other cases, the signals of the stroke are added to the stroke group storage means 104 and the dimension/ position of the virtual frame stored by the virtual frame storage means 106 are updated by using a virtual frame enlargement means 112.</p> |
