Disclosed are 1,7-disubstituted perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydrides (I) and perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acids (Ia) in which the variables have the following meanings: L<1>, L<2> independently of one another represent 1,2 ethylene, 1,2-ethenylene and 1,2-ethinylene; R<1>, R<2> independently of one another represent hydrogen or optionally substituted C1-C30 alkyl. Also disclosed are the production of these compounds and their use as pigments, laser dyes and precursors for the production of fluorescent dyes, polymer colorants, pigments and pigment additives, and 1,7-disubstituted perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid diimides (VI) as intermediate products for these compounds.
