PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing propylene oxide by reacting propylene with ethylbenzene hydroperoxide, capable of maintaining the deterioration of catalyst activity accompanied by the employment of the catalyst at an extremely low level. SOLUTION: This method for producing propylene oxide comprises reacting propylene with ethylbenzene hydroperoxide in the presence of a heterogeneous catalyst which is insoluble in the reaction mixture, contains at least one kind of silicon compound selected from the group consisting of solid silica and inorganic silicate salts and further contains titanium chemically bound to the silicon compound. Therein, the reaction is performed under such conditions that the concentration of organic acids in the reaction mixture is <=2μmol/g and that the concentration of propylene glycol in the reaction mixture is <=10μmol/g. |
