PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to execute quenching of a long-sized work from one end to the other end over the entire length. SOLUTION: The work supporting mechanism for rotatably supporting the long-sized work W has a first chuck 110L for holding one end WA of the long- sized work W, a second chuck for holding the other end WB of the long-sized W and supporting rollers for supporting the long-sized work W in midway. The first chuck is constituted not to hold the long-sized work W when the second chuck 110R holds the other end WB of the long-sized work W and the part to be held by the first chuck 110L is quenched. The second chuck 110R is constituted not to hold the long-sized work W when the first chuck 110L holds one end of the long-sized work W and the part held by the second chuck 110R is quenched.
