The method involves setting the adjuster (16) depending on a predefined desired position and an actual position detected by a transducer (22). At least one other operating parameter representing the load on a drive unit is detected by a measurement device (24) independent of the adjuster. The setting of the adjuster in at least one operating state is conducted based on the operating parameter detected by the independent measurement device. The operating state is a part of the drive unit idle state, pref. when the difference between desired and actual speed is below a defined threshold.
