The circuit (16) serves a modulator (5) constituted by e.g. a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The electrical signal (UIN) is applied to a 180 degree hybrid, or antiphase power splitter (2a) whose outputs are applied through the distortion elements (1) and amplifiers (2b) to the modulator. Each distortion element, which may be a Mach-Zehnder modulator, achieves a partial serial development of the inverse of the transfer function. A variant embodiment has in each channel, phase and antiphase, a power splitter with one output delayed and the other cross-coupled, via a Mach-Zehnder modulator, to a combiner in the other channel.
