A rapid and quantitative assay to estimate gene transfer into cells using a 96-well format PCR is described. The assay can be combined with a fluorescent detection system to eliminate the need to run agarose gels. An assay and primers are provided for detection of Moloney-Murine leukemia virus (MMLV)-based vectors.
